Air Conditioner
HVAC systems typically have an indoor and outdoor unit that work together (split system). An air conditioner is an outdoor unit, and it sends cooled air to the indoor unit for circulation through your home. Evaporator Coil
As air is passed through the cooling system, the coil extracts or transfers heat from the indoor air, thus cooling the air before sending it back into the home. The refrigerant then flows back to the compressor (which controls the pressure applied to the refrigerant) where the cycle repeats.
Packaged System
In a packaged system, all equipment is built into an outdoor unit and often located on the roof. The "package" provides both air conditioning and heating. A primary advantage of packaged systems is a single footprint which is ideal for homes with space constraints that do not allow for a traditional split system.
